Occupancy of hotels and resorts rise to 77.5 percent

MALE, Sept 12 (HNS) -- According to Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, the occupancy of hotels and resorts has increased to 77.5 percent.

Occupancy of resorts increasing

At the end of last month the occupancy was 77.5 percent. At the end of last year, occupancy of hotels was 92.3 percent and during the month of July, this year, it was 61.6 percent.

According to the Tourism Ministry the number of beds operated in the resorts last month was 13,822.

Surveys have shown that the number of tourists visiting the country had increased by 28 percent, from the month of July to the month of August. However compared to the same period of last year it is 31.3 percent less.

Last month, 38,366 tourists visited the Maldives but this value is 26 percent less than the estimated value of Maldives Tourism Promotion Board (MTPB). Their estimated value was 52,137.
