39 parties bid for Vilivaru island and Biyaadhoo island resorts in Maldives

At a ceremony held on Sunday 20 June 2004 at Nasandhura Palace Hotel in Male, the Tourism Ministry accepted the bids with a 100,000-dollar bid security. Some 39 parties proposed their bids for Villivaru and Biyadhoo island resort formerly managed by an Indian company. Two bids were rejected as they failed to submit the proposal on 12:00pm deadline. Vilivaru Isalnd resort received 21 offers while Biyadhoo Island Resort received 18 offers on time.

The Tourism Ministry announced the bidding of these two islands in South Male’ Atoll on 11 March 2004 as the current lease was expired. Some 73 parties bought bid documents for the two islands. Among the parties who bid for Vilivaru and Biyaadhoo resorts include well-known resort owners and tour operators.

A total of US$ 40 million has been offered as the two highest bids for resort islands Biyaadhoo and Vilivaru. The proposals were for the ten-year lease of the two islands.

The highest bid for Biyaadhoo island resort was presented by Eco Heaven Holidays Private Limited. Their bid was for US$ 34.56 million. For Vilivaru Island resort the highest bid offer was submitted by Suriana Investment Private Limited a sum of US$ 21.48 million for 10 years.

Biyadhoo Island Resort would be developed as a 192-bed resort, while Vilivaru Island Resort would be a 120-bed resort.
