Additional islands will be selected for resort development soon

Minister of Tourism Hassan Sobir told that new islands are to be developed as tourist resorts, in a news brief to Haveeru, Maldivian daily.

At present there are 11 islands opened for public bidding. These islands are developed under second tourism master plan.

Tourism the main industry of the Maldives.

The 11 islands which are on public bid are:

1. North Thiladhunmathee(Haa Alifu) Atoll Alidhoo with 200 beds
2. South Thiladhunmathee (Haa Dhaalu) Atoll Hondaafushi with 200 beds and a golf course
3. North Miladhunmadulu (Shaviyani) Atoll Dholhiyadhoo with 200 beds
4. South Miladhunmadulu (Noonu) Atoll Randheli with 100 beds
5. South Miladhunmadulu (Noonu) Atoll Maavelavaru with 100 beds
6. Kolhumadulu (Thaa) Atoll Kalhufahalafushi with 200 beds
7. Hadhdhunmathee (Laamu) Atoll Olhuveli with 200 beds
8. North Huvadhoo (Gaafu Alifu) Atoll Funamaudua with 100 beds
9. North Huvadhoo (Gaafu Alifu) Atoll Hadahaa with 100 beds
10. South Huvadhoo (Gaafu Dhaalu) Atoll Konottaa with100 beds
11. South Huvadhoo (Gaafu Dhaalu) Atoll Lonudhuahuttaa with 100 beds

The development of 11 islands will add 1,600 beds to the Maldives tourism industry.
Information on bidding process and bid documents are available from the Ministry of Tourism Maldives.

The new islands will be selected among the 300 islands surveyed by the Ministry of Tourism.
