A fire incidence sinks Cruise boat Fathuhul Bari

Fathuhul Bari, one of the most popular cruise boats operated in the Maldives sank on Sunday, 18 April 2004 as a result of a fire. When the fire broke out the vessel was moored off the harbour of Olhuveli Beach and Spa Resort, South Male' Atoll.

Fortunately all the crews were safe without injury. At the time of the fire there were no tourists on board.

Fathuhul Bari is a 100ft yacht, which can travel at a maximum speed of 10 knots.
The vessel has 9 cabins, furnished with large beds and ensuite bathrooms. It can accommodate 18 passengers. The boat operates with 7 crew members.

Fathuhul Bari caught fire around 1:00 am early Sunday, and staff of Olhuveli and the Coast Guard engaged in fighting the fire. The cause of the fire has not been determined.

However, within two hours, half the boat had already caught fire, and it sank off, the official said.

Sun Travel and Tours acquired Fathuhul Bari in 1999. Fathul Bari one of the most popular cruise boat now lies on the sea bed.
